Animal Print Dresses: Ann Taylor & Banana Republic

I bought two dresses the other day, both on super sale. I realize that too much of anything isn't good...Sadly, I'm sure that this philosophy also applies to animal print dresses (oh well). While both dresses are cut completely differently, they're both leopard print.

The first dress is from Banana Republic - I can't find it online. I believe it's called the faux-wrap and it's similar to the Gemma Wrap dress, without the tie. Similar snakeskin print dress from Kohl's here. Similar styles here.

The second dress is from Ann Taylor, it is the Animal Print Side Ruched Dress.

Both dresses feel really good on, they're both soft and the fabric is pretty thick. The BR dress fits TTS, while the AT dress fits slightly bigger - I sized down.

As a kid, I always loved digging around in my mom's closet looking for interesting finds. I'd inevitably steal some of the best stuff in there, and would leave her asking, 'Where did my ___go?" (For a truly accurate account, this must be read in Spanish, in "Mom Tone"). In later years, when my sense of style went from Kurt Cobain (Iwillalwaysloveyou) to Karl, she began taking little shopping trips in my closet.

Accessories are what we borrow most. Purses, necklaces, earrings, rings - all of it. We both love over the top, big and bold accessories.

Original Miami Antique Show, 2012

A couple of weeks ago, I won tickets to the Original Miami Antique Show courtesy of the adorable blogger, Alyson of The Average Girls Guide (TAGG). She's a fellow Floridian blogger, like myself, and offered up the tickets on her Facebook page. Despite my recent bad luck streak, I won them. I'd never been to the antique show, even though it's heralded as the largest in the country?

The majority of the items we saw were jewels! There were gorgeous inlaid furniture pieces, pretty vases and some vintage Chanel's but the pictures I snapped were mostly of jewelry.

A rude twenty-something told me that I "should really ask permission, just so you know, I don't care, but everyone else will care, if you're going to take a picture." My plight.

Recent Acquisitions: ASOS Slot Through Portfolio Clutch

Recently bought this ASOS clutch online, without paying attention to the dimensions. I was surprised to find that it's really large. As far as envelope clutches go, this is probably the largest one I own. It took a while to get used to the size at first, but after a couple of days I decided to keep it. I actually kind of love it now.

It's soft on the outside, feels like leather. The inside is roomy with one zip pocket.

The color is a gorgeous nude. These are Iphone pictures on a gloomy day - with no light. The pictures on the website are more accurate as to the color.

Can't Afford, Can Afford: Leopard Edition (Happy Birthday, Blog!)

I love leopard print (fun fact, I always misspell 'leopard'). I don't love it in a Jerseylicious kind of way, but rather in a more subtle way. Ha. Add a little animalistic flair to your outfits with these picks.

Scarves: The Alexander McQueen leopard & skulls scarf rings in at a crazy $725! It is made from cashmere & silk, but no matter what material, it's still quite pricey for a scarf. Zara offers theirs for under $20, here.

Clutches: The Jimmy Choo Leopard Print Calf-Hair clutch retails for over $1000 & while it's currently 50% off at The OutNet, its' $647.50 price tag takes it just outside of the realm of affordability. Sarcasm, noted, I'm sure. Why not try Forever 21's embossed leopard clutch? It's not calf hair, but it is cut long, like the Choo and still gives you the same effect.
PS: Lauren Merkin makes a gorgeous black on black leopard clutch worth checking out.

Belts: W. Kleinberg Reversible Hair-Calf Belt - $175 vs. this leopard belt from Asos.

Smoking Loafers: How do you guys feel about smoking loafers? Do you like their androgynous feel? These Dolce Vita Nariko loafers have a lot of positive reviews, but are pricey for a trend - $165. Steve Madden's version are $89, buy here.

One year ago today, my creative project, The Fashionable ESQ was born! I can honestly say that I'm very proud of it. It has grown so much! It has been a really fun time. When I first started, I noticed that other blogs that began around the same time as TFE had so many more followers! I wondered what I was doing wrong...then one day, I let go of the numbers game, and the rest just came naturally. I now try to improve the outfit I feature and the content with every post.

I wanted to thank everyone who has helped me - all of my followers (<3 ) and a special thank you to:

The BIGGEST thank you to my photographer - my boyfriend and TFE's VP! He is responsible for most of the photos that appear on the site. He painstakingly crouched his 6'4" frame down to get the perfect shot, all the while putting up with the constant badgering from...this girl. Always with a smile on his face...and always telling me to "stop moving!!!" :) He encourages me and supports me in all things, no matter how fashionably frivolous they may be. Love.

Good morning! Happy Friday! I'm so excited for the weekend. No particular plans but this just seemed like the longest week. Old Navy Sweater Dress + Vest

Wore this Old Navy sweater dress again this weekend. I also bought it in a leopard print which I have yet to feature but I'm hoping the cool weather continues and so that I can sport it soon.

This is one of the first times that I have gotten to wear these GZ shoes that I got in September. My feet are so narrow that the peep toe actually makes these shoes a little uncomfortable. Does anyone have a solution for toes that go through peep toes in shoes? I mean really. What the heck? I wore them with an insole, but no luck.

This dress has turned out to be a pretty good buy; it was a relatively inexpensive purchase and can be worn many different ways, including with a fun vest - as seen below.

I've spent the last couple of days with my family + my love. It was perfect.

I hardly ever wear red, but I thought it was the right time to break out these skinny jeans that I got at TJ Maxx. They're festive paired with the sequined top!

If I'm sort of leery of a fashion trend, I test the trend out by picking up an item at an affordable store like Forever 21 or TJ Maxx. I love the look of colored denim but truthfully did not break the bank on either the blue or red pair that I now own because I wasn't sure if I'd love the look on me.

I kind of love red now.

My lovely boyfriend bought the sweetest gift for me; the Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM. I wasn't so much touched by what he got but how he got it...t and I love him all the more for it. :)

Hello! Are you tiring of shots in front of Christmas trees & presents yet? I'm sort of pushing it to the limit with the Holiday Cheer, I think.

I mix metals all the time; I have friends that stick only to either gold, silver, etc., but would never wear a gold watch with a silver bracelet.

For these photos I had on a bronze cuff, silver watch and gold necklace. The little pyramid spikes on the belt are pewter.

Continuing on my theme of OMG I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!, I attended a holiday party at a great couple's home this weekend. I wore a hunter green dress from Zara with cutout sleeves. This style of dress is my current favorite! I always gravitate towards loose fitting mini dresses with 3/4 length sleeves. I love the look of something that's not too overtly sexy but still looks chic and effortless.

I think a deep green color pairs really well with gold or bronze accessories. I resisted the urge to pile on a ton of accessories because the gathering was laid back, but trust me, I wanted to trick this puppy out.

Art Basel is a week long Miami art show that draws in a lot of snowbirds and art lovers to the city. The week is filled with non-stop parties. Some of the events are put on by high end jewelry lines like Cartier, and other festivities include photography and jewelry exhibitions from lesser known artists. Regardless of the event, it's always fun to attend something during Art Basel, and it makes for great people watching.

Last week I was notified by the Patron Social Club that I had won the Guess & Elle Magazine Cocktails & Style Sweepstakes! That's exactly what the e-mail said. I was so excited! The Patron Social Club sponsors events in different cities; they do this cool thing called the Patron Secret Dining Society, where you can enter to win a fancy dinner at an undisclosed location, etc.

They sent me & a guest to an Art Basel party that was hosted on South Beach at the Guess Store on Lincoln Road. For the first time in a long time, we had somewhat cooler and breezy weather so I paired a navy sweater dress with leopard patterned tights.

The event was a collaboration between Elle Magazine, Patron & Guess. They served cocktails with ginger beer (not my thing, I discovered) & appetizers like mini lobster rolls and roast beef with crystallized something on top, which was delicious. Great music, too; great DJ. Overall a very fun experience..

Patterned tights/pantyhose are a great way to add an extra something to an otherwise
plain outfit. These are really strong, by Urban Outfitters. Two for $20!

These taupe colored Vince Camuto heels that you see here..yes, gorgeous as they are, destroyed,
mangled, and killed my feet.
Never. Again.
Who wants them? Has anyone else had terrible luck with shoes by this line?

Cool looking decorative pieces that lined the ceiling of the Guess store.

How chic are these black leather gloves? The quilted ones on the far right are my favorite!

The Guess store looked great. Packed house, too.

Last weekend the blog (me) was invited to tour the new Casaideas store in Sunset Place. Casaideas is a home goods store with an emphasis on...it's hard to say actually. There was so much going in there! You can basically get anything from a shower curtain to a cute notebook to an adorable woven basket for your magazines. The store is pretty big, with an entire upper level dedicated to children's items.

I believe the store originated in Chile and there are stores in Columbia and Peru, but the Miami store is the first in the US! They have a a wide variety of kitchen products like spatulas, timers, and trays. They also have a large selection of items for the bath, like mats, shower curtains, and shower caps. I saw a patio umbrella for sale. I also saw stuffed toys for kids. I'm telling you - everything. As far as the pricing was concerned, I thought it was all pretty reasonably priced.

The second I got my new Rebecca Taylor jacket in the mail, I loved it and had to wear it. D&G Lace + Love

We recently attended a destination wedding. I would have liked to have jazzed this dress up with a big more but as I've already detailed, I'm a terrible packer. I only realize that I want something when I am miles away from my own closet and can't have that item! Worst.Packer.Ever.

This set was a bridesmaid gift from a very good friend of mine. They're from Nordstrom and really, really pretty in person.
Lots of sparkle.

I Wore a black blazer over the dress because it was a little chilly. It's a
little more of a masculine look that I'm used to but the dress
was really girly and lacy, so it was a good contrast.
Meanwhile...can someone please tell me what is going on with my
'popped collar' in this photo?

BIG Gripe: the white brand tag was exposed on the dress?!

Get excited - I'm was invited to a trunk show for JIOIA Jewelry next week. JIOIA is an emerging jewelry and handbag/clutch line based out of Miami. There are some really phenomenal pieces with bright stones; how cute are the bezel cut teardrop earrings? I think that they're good pieces that transition from the office to after work drinks. Recent Acquisitions: Ban.Do + Beverly Feldman

New ban.do accessories & Beverly Feldman shoes!

I jumped on the ban.do bandwagon late, as far as I'm concerned. I first learned of this brand's bright & bold accessories line by reading Melificent & Atlantic-Pacific. Personal style blogs are filled with photographs of the girls wearing ban.do's various flowers, hearts, & bows. I can't wait to wear these.

I love the idea of both a clip-on & bobby pin fastner. Sometimes, you don't want holes in your clothes!

Their packaging was adorable. The flower was a bit smashed when it arrived,
but it quickly puffed out again with some fluffing.

These were an impulse online buy (as most of my purchases are), while looking for comfortable
flats to wear while on vacation.

The bottom of these cute little shoes have embossed soles
with hearts and phrases like Too much is Not Enough.

Review: Gap Bow City Flats

I recently got back from a vacation where I walked/hiked/trekked/whined my way through many city streets. In this post I detailed how I had wanted a comfortable, chic flat for my trip. I bought these Gap Bow City Flats after reading the reviews on Gap.com. The reviews said to size up between 1/2 a size and a full shoe size. I sized up 1/2 a shoe size and I should have gone with one full shoe size. They retail for about $40, but you'll always find a sale on Gap.com

They're comfortable to walk short distances in but I would not recommend them for all-day wear. I was using them to walk through streets, on sightseeing adventures and by the end of the day I found that my ankle was really hurting. The ball of my foot hurt a lot as well - they provide zero support. They're really flimsy (they are made to be that way, they fold up when you are not wearing them and they do not have a full sole).

They're leather but the leather is basically .09 of a millimeter thick. A hole in the leather emerged after the first week I wore them; I'm not sure if this is because they're too small on me or because they're so poorly made but other reviews on Gap.com (that I see NOW) also discuss the holes.

They're comfortable enough to wear for a walk around the mall, or for other light indoor use, but if you want them for outdoor use, I found that they're too delicate and they're not constructed to withstand much.

I am obviously a contortionist.

They are really adorable and I wanted to love them. They come in a variety of colors and patterns which I really like.

A plus: the flats come in a medium sized carrying pouch that matches the color of the shoes. I really liked the pouch and I found it useful for storing items when traveling.

Alyson of The Average Girl's Guide really likes her pair so, maybe it's just me ;).

Peru Photo Diary

This post is more of a photo diary than a fashion diary. I hope you don't mind. There were lots of great pictures from our trip that I wanted to share. Lots of colors & textures. The temperature was considerably cooler in Cusco, and by 'considerably cooler', I basically mean that I died and became an ice cube. This is also the point in our trip where I rocked a ponytail and never let me hair down again - because our hotel ( and I use this word loosely) did not have hot water. Well, it actually did have hot water, but it was upon request; a fact we did not find out until our last night there. All in all, it was a completely memorable trip with lots of great laughs, a total experience.

Lima, Peru Part I

I am a terrible packer, I know that you're all aware. I always miss my closet when I am living out of a suitcase. I did my best. Please enjoy some pictures from our recent trip to Lima, Peru.

We're undercover.

We had an amazing experience at our hotel in Lima. We stayed at the Atton Hotel in San Isidro. The staff was so incredibly attentive and genuine. They were so sweet!

Catedral de San Francisco - We visited the Catacombs here. A very cool experience.

My better half was extremely adventurous food wise on this trip. We both had a 'When in Rome' mentality.
It cost us dearly...but we both tried Guinea Pig...a Peruvian custom/delicacy.
NEVER AGAIN! :(

We had to try the specialty drink of Peru - the Pisco Sour!
This hotel was gorgeous. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our first (but not our last) Pisco of our trip.
Sitting at this bar made me happy; we had a nice view of an upper class downtown area and it was reminiscent of a cafe in Europe.
